Corona virus pandemic has been one of the hot topic for medical researchers currently. More than 8 million cases are there till 18 June 2020. Around 4.5 lac people lost there live in the world and many are recovering by available treatments for flue and there own immune system.
Vaccine updates
Currently more than 160 vaccines are under study and optimistic scientists feels the viable vaccine may be ready by the end of 2020, but it will be premature to say about the deadlines as not all the vaccines are going to be tested on humans as it involves risks. Few might be tested and most will end up in laboratory research only.
There are lot of issues while undergoing to create such vaccine at large scales , one of the major factor is funding. Many different approaches are under study and collaborations with small and big films & drug producers are the ray of hope to overcome these challenges.
Until May 2020 there are potentially 10 vaccines are undergoing on human trials.
Out of which below are came to the top most and promising -
- CanSino andenovirus Vaccine (China)
- Andenovirus Vaccine (Oxford University)
- mRNA vaccine & Novavax (Modern's)
Chinese vaccine was jointly developed by Beijing Institute of Biological Products and China National Biotec Group Co, has completed the phase II of the human trial and can be available by end of this year or probably the early next year.
Sinovac Biotech is another Chinese bio pharmaceutical company has hopes on its inactivated vaccine CoronaVac and says they are 99 % sure of its efficacy.
Many private firms are giving funding to produce vaccine at the earliest. Sinovac has received around $15 million from Advantech capital and Vivo capital.
U.S.A company Moderna INC is one of the front runner in this vaccine race and they also started dosing patients in the mid stage study .
Russia is about to start the clinical trials .
Ray of hope - dexamethasone
The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes the initial clinical trial results from the United Kingdom (UK) that show dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, can be lifesaving for patients who are critically ill with COVID-19.
For patients on ventilators, the treatment was shown to reduce mortality by about one third, and for patients requiring only oxygen, mortality was cut by about one fifth, according to preliminary findings shared with WHO.The benefit was only seen in patients seriously ill with COVID-19, and was not observed in patients with milder disease.
“This is the first treatment to be shown to reduce mortality in patients with COVID-19 requiring oxygen or ventilator support,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “This is great news and I congratulate the Government of the UK, the University of Oxford, and the many hospitals and patients in the UK who have contributed to this lifesaving scientific breakthrough.”
Dexamethasone is a steroid that has been used since the 1960s to reduce inflammation in a range of conditions, including inflammatory disorders and certain cancers. It has been listed on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines since 1977 in multiple formulations, and is currently off-patent and affordably available in most countries.
Though Full data analysis is still pending and will be done in coming days but surely its hope as it can be a life saving drug.
Rumours
There are many rumour's spreading regarding this but one must believe after you clarify with the sources of the Information's.
One of the rumour was Israel had found the vaccine but truth is they found the significant breakthrough in production of antibodies and vaccine found by them will undergo several testings as other vaccines undergoing.
